On December 2013, I participated in Giant Robot's annual Post It Note Show (number 9). For this show, I started by thinking about how I used post it notes. What I realized was that I mostly used them as grocery lists. From there I illustrated six items I normally purchase when I go grocery shopping.
The week after the opening of Post It Show 9, Giant Robot decided to host a second opening since a bunch of artists were late with their contributions. I used this opportunity to create a second set. Sticking with the food theme, I chose to create a series inspired by my love of coffee.
For my coffee series, I decided to feature an animal that I consider the opposite of what coffee stands for: the Sloth.

Random Acts of Sadness
In August 2013, Corey Helford Gallery hosted my solo show "Random Acts of Sadness". As the title suggests, the show compiled a variety of paintings, most of which focused on the forlorn narratives I'm best known for. This being my first major show in Los Angeles in two years, I decided to incorporate a handful of paintings I've shown in some of the art shows I did outside of LA, and I also touched up / revised many of these paintings for the show.

Ugly Love (Featuring Peaco)
6" x 8"
Graphite and Ink on Paper
2013
Ugly Love (Featuring Peaco) was created for Uglycon 2013, a show dedicated to Ugly Doll. Hosted by Giant Robot, contributing artists were asked to create something featuring, or was at least related to, the Ugly Doll. For my contribution, I imagined it (in this case, the character Peaco) being loved by my bear to the point of being hurt.
Because I had little time to do this (with my upcoming solo show looming overhead) I choose to stick with using graphite and pen on paper.
Ball Point Pen Series
The Ball Point Pen Series was created for Tiny Trifecta, a massive group show hosted by Cotton Candy Machine (opening June 15th, 2013). As the title implies, artists were asked to contribute three small pieces of art, and as the name of the series says, these pieces were created with ball point pen on paper.

Designer Toy Award 2013 Nomination
Just found out I was nominated for a Designer Toy Award.
I received nominations for Artist of the Year, Best Customizer, Best Resin, Fan Favorite, and Outstanding Production.
Though I doubt I'll win anything (simply cause I can think of many other artists who are more deserving of the award), I just wanted to thank those who nominated me. Your support is truly appreciated.

Luke Chueh Rants - A Divulge Magazine Editorial (May 2013)
In April 2013, Divulge Magazine invited me to contribute a monthly column we call "Luke Chueh Rants - A Divulge Magazine Editorial". As the title implies, this is simply a place where I can talk about whatever is on my mind.
Though I am in no way a professional writer/journalist, many of my friends would agree that I have some interesting ideas (beyond the ones I use for my paintings). And being that my forte is visual communication, I'm also planning on creating original graphic editorials too.
And so, I want to say thank you to Divulge Magazine for offering me a place where I can document these thoughts and share them with their audience. I truly hope that this column will help me expand myself, beyond the world of my paintings.
I'd like to give a shout out to my sister, Kim Chueh, for helping me edit the copy and for taking the photography.
The May 2013 issue will feature my first official contribution.
This months rant is about men who sit like women.

Bartholomew Punchyface Contest
A couple weeks ago, 3D Retro, Scott Tolleson, and I celebrated the release of Bartholomew Punchyface at the Giant Robot gallery. At the party we also had a little contest where we invited attendees to show us how they would torture Bartholomew Punchyface. We started with a simple print out, and let the audience do their thing.
Of the contributions, Tolleson and I chose 3 designs as winners, whom we awarded hand embellished prints. (Can you guess which ones we chose?)
For your enjoyment, here are the contributions from the Bartholomew Punchyface - "Show Me A World Of Hurt" contest.
Bartholomew Punchyface is now available for purchase from 3D Retro.
